Historical Context
Founded in Málaga during the 19th century, Bodegas Larios became one of Spain’s leading producers of wines, brandies and spirits. Throughout much of the 20th century, the house developed several renowned brandies, with 1866 representing its flagship expression and Príncipe its most widely distributed companion brand.
Following the consolidation of the Spanish spirits industry, ownership of the company passed through several international groups. The historic Málaga production facilities eventually ceased operations and the 1866 brand later became part of Osborne, with production transferred to El Puerto de Santa María, in the Jerez region.
Today, original Málaga bottlings are increasingly appreciated by collectors as witnesses to a vanished chapter of Spanish brandy history and the heritage of the historic Bodegas Larios.
