Historical Context
Miguel Torres has been producing brandies in Penedès since the late nineteenth century, applying traditional distillation methods and long ageing in oak casks.
Among the historic brandies of the house, Fontenac occupied an important position as a premium reserve brandy, widely distributed in Spain during the second half of the twentieth century. Its distinctive profile combined elegance, smoothness and remarkable balance, making it one of the flagship spirits produced by Torres.
The Hors d’Âge expression represented an even higher level within the range. Produced in smaller quantities and aged for longer periods, it was intended for consumers seeking greater complexity and depth. The designation “Hors d’Âge”, borrowed from the world of fine cognac, traditionally indicates spirits matured well beyond the minimum ageing requirements.
Today, these early Torres brandies have become increasingly difficult to find, especially when preserved in their original presentation cases. They offer a valuable testimony to the golden age of Spanish brandy production and to the historic role played by Miguel Torres in the development of premium spirits in Spain.
