Historical & Distribution Context
Macán was created through a unique partnership between Benjamin de Rothschild and Vega Sicilia, two iconic names in the world of fine wine. The project was launched in Rioja with the ambition of producing a modern interpretation of the region’s great wines while remaining faithful to its terroir and traditions.
After years of vineyard selection and research, the first vintage was released in 2009. The estate is located around the village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, one of Rioja’s most prestigious areas, where old Tempranillo vineyards benefit from exceptional soils and a privileged climate.
Today, Macán is widely regarded as one of the leading premium wines of Rioja. Combining the winemaking expertise of Vega Sicilia with the vision of the Rothschild family, it has earned international recognition for its elegance, precision and ageing potential. Large-format bottlings such as Magnum are particularly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts for their rarity and superior ageing characteristics.
