Historical & Distribution Context
TAU is an “episcopal” Chartreuse, a blend of Yellow Chartreuse with a subtle touch of Green Chartreuse. It was created as a tribute to the city of Tarragona, where the historic Chartreuse distillery operated between 1903 and 1989.
Produced since 2017 by the Carthusian monks in Voiron, France, this special cuvée commemorates the historical ties between Chartreuse and Tarragona, while expressing gratitude for the many decades of connection between the city and the brand.
The label combines the colours of the liqueur with those traditionally associated with Tarragona and prominently features the “Tau”, the emblematic symbol from which the cuvée takes its name. The back label, illustrated with an archival photograph of the former Tarragona distillery, also indicates the bottling year.
TAU is released exclusively in Tarragona during the annual Santa Tecla festivities
