The bottle and its original presentation case are well preserved considering their age.

The fill level remains very good and the labels retain strong colours and good overall readability. The original tax seal is present and intact.

This lot includes the original Pedro Domecq explanatory leaflet issued to accompany the introduction of the new bottle design. The document explains the transition from the previous presentation while emphasizing that the quality and character of Carlos I remained unchanged.

STORY

Historical Context

Carlos I is one of the most prestigious and internationally recognized Spanish brandies.

Created by Pedro Domecq in Jerez de la Frontera, it takes its name from Emperor Charles V (Carlos I of Spain) and is produced according to the traditional Solera and Criaderas ageing system, using carefully selected wine spirits matured in American oak casks previously seasoned with Sherry wines.

Over the decades, Carlos I became one of the flagship products of Jerez brandy production and played a major role in establishing the reputation of Spanish brandies abroad.

During the late 1960s, Pedro Domecq introduced a completely redesigned bottle intended to better reflect the quality and prestige of the brand. Early examples of this presentation were accompanied by an explanatory leaflet informing customers of the packaging change while reassuring them that the contents remained unchanged.

Today, these early bottlings are increasingly sought after by collectors, not only for their historical significance but also because they represent some of the earliest versions of the iconic Carlos I bottle still known today.
