Gran Duque d’Alba is one of the most prestigious traditional brandies produced in Jerez de la Frontera. Created by Diez-Mérito, a historic Andalusian house founded in the 19th century, it is produced according to the classic Jerez solera system, using selected wine distillates aged for long periods in American oak casks previously seasoned with sherry.
The “Gran Reserva Hors d’Age” designation was reserved for exceptionally old brandies selected from the oldest soleras of the house. During the 1970s and 1980s, these special releases represented the flagship of the Diez-Mérito range and were produced in limited quantities.
Today, early examples such as this bottle are increasingly sought after by collectors of vintage Spanish brandies and historic Jerez spirits.
