Chartreuse Santa Tecla Jaune is a limited edition created as a tribute to the city of Tarragona and its traditional Santa Tecla festivities. Produced in relatively small quantities, this cuvée has historically been distributed exclusively in Tarragona during the annual celebrations dedicated to the city’s patron saint.
The first commercial release dates from the year 2000 and was bottled at 40% ABV in 70 cl format. Beginning in 2009, the alcohol strength was increased to 43% ABV, in line with the evolution of other modern Chartreuse expressions.
Produced by the Carthusian monks in France, Santa Tecla maintains a strong symbolic connection with Tarragona, the city where the historic Chartreuse distillery operated between 1903 and 1989. The front label remains identical to the standard Chartreuse Jaune presentation, while the back label changes each year and is always linked to the city of Tarragona, frequently featuring historical references, local symbols or imagery associated with the festivities.
Its exclusivity and limited availability have made it particularly sought after by collectors and Chartreuse enthusiasts. Annual production was originally estimated at around 4,000 bottles, although quantities have gradually decreased over time, further reinforcing the rarity and collectable nature of this edition.
