Historical Context
Founded in 1976 to commemorate the centenary of the city of Zacapa, Ron Zacapa has become one of the world’s leading premium rum brands. Produced in Guatemala from concentrated virgin sugar cane honey rather than molasses, Zacapa follows a distinctive production philosophy that sets it apart from most traditional rum producers.
One of the house’s defining characteristics is its maturation at approximately 2,300 metres above sea level in the cool climate of the Guatemalan highlands, commonly known as the “House Above the Clouds”. Ageing is carried out through a traditional Solera system using a succession of carefully selected casks, contributing to the remarkable complexity and balance for which Zacapa is renowned.
Over the past decades, Zacapa has received numerous international awards and has established itself as one of the most recognised premium rum producers worldwide.
